The first animation theme park in Asia, Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) will be closed from today until further notice.
The closure notice was issued by the Receiver and Manager of Animation Theme Park Sdn Bhd (ATP) from Messrs Ernst & Young.
MAPS theme park visitors’ numbers dropped drastically
The RM520 million theme park was originally planned to open in 2015 but the opening was delayed to June 2017. The theme park was created from a joint venture between Park Corporation Berhad and the Sanderson Group. MAPS theme park was a hot attraction as it featured international titles from DreamWorks Animation such as “The Smurfs”.
The park houses both international and Malaysian Intellectual Properties and have more than 40 attractions in six themed zones. However, over the years, visitors’ numbers drop drastically to a point, the theme park seem like a ghost town.
