Good News! The Maldives borders open 15 July 2020. Visitors are not required to quarantine nor undergo swab tests upon arrival.

Booking Accommodation When Maldives Borders Open

Visitor are required to hold a confirmed booking in resort or hotel registered with the Ministry of Tourism before arrival in The Maldives.

Seven resorts will reopen in July 2020, while others will stagger openings between August and October. Club Med Kani has announced its reopening from 12 December 2020.

During phase one, visitors are required to book their entire stay at one resort or hotel. Stay at multiple resorts and hotel is not permitted during this period. Exceptions will be made for transit arrangements.

All resorts in the Maldives are required to have a “Safe Tourism License”. This means a certified doctor is required on site and adequate stock of personal protection equipment.

Rooms must be made available for isolation should tourists or resort staff fall ill.

Entry Into the Maldives

Visitors are not subject to compulsory quarantine and Covid-19 medical test results will not be required for entry to The Maldives.

However, travelers displaying Covid-19 symptoms will need take a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test as visitors cost.

The local health authorities may conduct random testing at no cost to travelers. A health declaration card will be required as part of the on-arrival procedure.

Departure from the Maldives

Testing services are available for visitors who require Covid-19 test results before returning to their country or another destination.

The island nation has recorded about 2,000 Covid-19 cases resulting in five deaths.

The Maldives welcomed more than 1.7 million visitors in 2019. Before the pandemic tourism officials had targeted more than two million for this year.
