Malaysia Airlines Extends Lite Fares To ASEAN And South Asia Routes

Malaysia Airlines implemented Domestic Horizontal Fare Family (HFF) since 09 April 2019. The Horizontal Fare Family offered cheaper fares for customers that don’t require check-in baggage and the need for any changes. The new fare family benefited many day trip travellers as they saw a reduction in Malaysia Airlines fares.

Starting from 18 February 2020, the Malaysia Airlines Horizontal Fare Family will extend to ASEAN and South Asia routes.

The Horizontal Fare Family will comprise 3 categories – Lite, Basic and Flex, similar like the fares introduce for Malaysia domestic routes.

Travel tip when booking Malaysia Airlines flights

From 18 February 2020 onwards, customers booking Malaysia Airlines to ASEAN and South Asia needs to determine if they require check-in baggage before purchasing their tickets. Why? It’s cheaper to purchase a fare with baggage allowance instead of buying extra baggage allowance separately.

What is the Malaysia Airlines Infant fare and baggage allowance?

Infant fare will be 10% of the applicable adult fare. Baggage allowance is 0kg for Lite fare and 10kgs for Basic and Flex fares.

If I am travelling from Melbourne to London with a side trip to Penang, which family fare benefit will be applied?

The Family Fare benefits depends how the ticket was issued.

If Melbourne to London a with side trip to Penang is issued in the same ticket, they will be entitled 20kgs for the entire journey.

If Melbourne to London is issued in one ticket, while Kuala Lumpur to Penang is issued on a separate ticket, Melbourne to London will be entitled 20kgs, while Kuala Lumpur to Penang will be 0kg, if the Lite fare was purchased.

Are Malaysia Airlines Enrich Members entitled to extra baggage allowance?
