[Update 28 January 2020] The Japan Meteorological Corporation (JMC) has released the second forecast for cherry blossom flowering season in 2020.
Here are the changes:
- Tokyo sakura will open one day earlier, on March 18, and will reach full bloom on March 26.
- The opening of the buds in Osaka, Kyoto and Sapporo have stayed the same, except Osaka is expected to reach full bloom one day later, on April 2.
The Japan Meteorological Corporation will release their next forecast on February 6.
[Released 18 January 2020] The cherry blossoms are predicted to bloom a week to 10 days earlier than last year due to the warmer winter this year.

“Sakura Navi” App
The Sakura Navi is a paid app where you can find information on flowering forecast, flowering progress and full bloom dates of the cherry blossom throughout Japan.
The app has a “Cherry Blossom Spot” proximity notification where you will be notified when you are close to a Cherry Blossom area as well as a Stamp Card to record your previously visited locations.
